Get ready to bike the Burg in style. On Saturday, January 25, hundreds of people in vintage attire will take to the streets on old school bikes for a four-mile loop through downtown as part of the St. Pete Shuffleboard Club’s 13th annual Tweed Ride. Tickets are on sale now here.
The annual favorite is a St. Pete staple, as the party kicks off with tea and scones at the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club before the group ride through downtown, complete with an escort by the St. Petersburg Police Department. More than 300 riders are expected this year, dressed in their best tweed or other vintage clothing.
After the ride, participants will return to the SPSC to enjoy a concert by Junco Royals, swing dancing, and a meal by Heavy’s, as well as beer from presenting sponsor (and downtown favorite) Cycle Brewing.
Doors open and registration (as well as scone and tea service) begins at 2 pm on Saturday, January 25, with the ride officially commencing at 4 pm. Tickets are on sale now, and club members receive a discounted rate of $50. The non-members rate is $60, and kids 16 and under are $20 (all prices pre-tax).
Part of what makes this year’s ride so special is that it’s happening in the wake of St. Pete Shuffleboard Club’s 100th anniversary in 2024, an incredible milestone for one of the world’s most legendary shuffleboard clubs. With that in mind, the year’s most fashionable event on two wheels is also a pivotal fundraiser for the Sunshine City’s historic shuffleboard club.
The Tweed ride takes place rain or shine, and riders are reminded that there is no drinking alcohol before or during the ride. The after party is set for 5-8 pm, and the food provided by Heavy’s is included in the cost of the ticket. Cycle Brewing will be onsite after the ride to provide brews for cyclists at no fixed cost, but with a donation recommended.
St. Pete Shuffleboard Club is located at 559 Mirror Lake Drive North. Learn more about the world’s oldest and largest shuffleboard club (and the Tweed Ride) at stpeteshuffle.com.
