Downtown’s Sundial to be sold to Safety Harbor real estate developer

Downtown’s Sundial to be sold to Safety Harbor real estate developer

The courtyard at Sundial

Downtown St. Pete’s Sundial is being sold to a Safety Harbor real estate developer, the owner told the Tampa Bay Business Journal. Earlier plans to turn the property into a food hall with the development team behind Tampa’s Heights Market in Armature Works had fallen apart and even resulted in legal action.

TBBJ has linked the pending sale to Safety Harbor-based developer Paradise Ventures, and Sundial Owner Bill Edwards confirmed the sale of the property to the Business Journal this week.

While the sale is still pending, new ownership has yet to confirm the sale or share any plans for the property. The only information currently available comes from the St. Petersburg City Council agenda, which calls for a vote on February 10 to amend the parking agreement between the city and Sundial’s ownership.

The Sundial, an open-air mall, has long been a centerpiece of downtown St. Pete, but as Edwards told the Business Journal, he felt the city had grown and developed faster than Sundial had. In Edwards estimation, Sundial has gotten behind and not kept up with the needs of St. Pete. New ownership will be tasked with developing the existing structure or potentially building something completely new.

This is an ongoing story and will be updated as more information and plans are shared.
