St. Pete’s sweetest competition is back this weekend, as The Great St. Pete Cupcake Contest returns for its 12th delicious year. The bake-off is hosted at the Morean Center for Clay (420 22nd Street South) on Saturday, August 26 from 12-3 pm.
The city-wide search for St. Pete’s best cupcake is an annual favorite and includes five different cupcake categories. Tickets are $15 and include a full dozen cupcakes, which eaters will pick up during the 12-3 pm window. Of course, for those who are extra hungry, you can buy more tickets and get more boxes.

First and second-place awards will be given in each category, including Novice, Professional, Youth/Teen (Ages 10-16), Specialty (Gluten Free or Vegan), and of course, the People’s Choice. The People’s Choice award will be voted on by the attending audience via digital survey and announced at 3 pm.
While the People’s Choice will, of course, be voted on by attendees, the remaining categories will be selected by a panel of judges. Cupcakes will be judged on the originality of the cupcake, artistic presentation of their table, and taste/texture, allowing plenty of room for edible creativity. Tickets are available through the Morean Center for Clay.
