If the best part about going to baseball games is watching the actual baseball, then the food and drink you enjoy in the process is a clear No. 2. As the Tampa Bay Rays work through the finishing touches on the baseball portion of the 2024 season, we got a sneak peek at exactly what to expect in the concession stands this year.
The Rays and their Tropicana Field concessions partners have gotten more and more creative in recent years, and this year’s lineup of food and drink may be the biggest yet. And before we get to the new stuff, we should ease any fears over losing a favorite. Last year’s best-selling new item is back: the footlong pretzel dog. In fact, this year, there’s an entire pretzel-themed lineup of goodies inspired by the footlong’s popularity. More on those below.
New food stands this year include pretzel concept “Twisted,” two locations for “Cookie Fueled Mama,” a full Chicken Salad Chick location, and a new “Gluten-Free Favorites” stand that will offer gluten-free versions of stadium favorites, including hot dogs, chicken tenders, French fries, and smash burgers.
Creative new food items at Tropicana Field this year:
- Short Rib Cheesesteak – available at Melted
- Everything Pretzel Bites – available at Twisted
- Short Rib Nachos – available at Melted
- Korean Corn Dog – available at Pig & Potato
- Sweet Pretzel Bites – available at Twisted
- Pretzel Pork Reuben – available at Pig & Potato
- Smash Burger – available at Central Burger and Gluten-Free Favorites
- Gluten-Free Chicken Tenders and Fries – available at Modern Bird, Bird & Batter, and Gluten-Free Favorites
New beverages at Tropicana Field this year:
- Viva Tequila Seltzer
- Daiquiri Deck
- Vino Ghivino 21 Wines
- Superbird Tequila
- New Belgium Craft Beer
We’re particularly interested in a couple of those new items. The Korean Corn Dog is an all-beef hot dog corn-battered and topped with crunchy potato and fontina cheese, along with spicy mayo for dipping. The Pretzel Pork Reuben, meanwhile, is a hefty pork Reuben piled inside of a pretzel bun, filled with slow-smoked pork pastrami, house-made sauerkraut, and a mustard sauce.
Tropicana Field is ranked in the top five of all concessions throughout the MLB, and the continued innovation is a good indicator as to why the ballpark consistently ranks so high. In fact, their offerings are so good that they’ll even feed you after you leave the stadium. The Rays announced a deal with Culver’s where fans can get a free order of their famous cheese curds any time the Rays score a run in the third inning. It’s a cheesy deal, and we love it.
