Pulpo is now open in the Grand Central District of St. Pete at 2147 Central Ave. The much-anticipated restaurant and bar is from the same pair behind Seaworthy Fish Bar and Brick & Mortar. It joins Tampa Bay Drinkery (TBD) as another stunning new addition to the neighborhood.
If you’re curious about the name, Pulpo is the Spanish word for Octopus. The entire menu, from the cocktails to the cuisine, is Latin-inspired.

Pulpo elevates the Central Avenue culinary scene
It’s in its soft opening phase, but early reviews are certainly hyping up this new location.
Listed items during the soft opening include:
- Peruvian-style ceviche: fresh catch, citrus, pomegranate, cilantro, mint, sweet potato, coconut kaffir lime salsa.
- Veal albondigas: crushed tomato sauce, romesco, manchego, and Marcona almond.
- Carmelized acorn squash: black mint yogurt, pomegranate, and agrodolce.
The restaurant was also slinging a homemade flan over the weekend and a baby arugula salad with shaved manchego.
A beautiful new passion project
Inside, diners can choose from cozy tables and boot seating, or a seat at its style circular bar at the center of the restaurant. There’s ample outdoor seating with a stage for live music on the weekends.
It’s evident why Hope Montgomery and Jason Ruhe, the visionaries behind Pulpo, have found so much success in the Tampa Bay area since opening Brick and Mortar downtown nearly 10 years ago. Beyond the menu, the atmosphere, friendly service, and beautiful attention to detail set all of their culinary endeavors apart. The debut of Pulpo is a significant win for the food scene in St. Pete, and we can’t wait to see it flourish.
