A historic St. Pete building is getting more than new life this summer; it’s getting thousands of new stories. Pages and Perks, a family-friendly bookstore with events, desserts, mocktails, beer and wine, is opening at 914 MLK Jr. Street South as part of The Looking Glass Initiative.

Owner Kate Johnson says the new space will be designed as a place where locals can linger, enjoying a new read or a drink, or just chatting with friends. The bookstore will carry everything from young adult and children’s books to graphic novels, sci-fi, thrillers, horror, fantasy and adult romance.

Pages and Perks is planning for a summer 2026 opening as they continue renovations and design inside the 1,600 square-foot space. Once open, the store will also host a wide array of events, including yoga, game nights, Dungeons and Dragons campaigns, themed evenings of silent reading, book clubs, and more.

In addition to books, Pages and Perks will showcase a range of desserts and full menu of functional mocktails by Curious Elixirs, as well as an assortment of wines and local beer. The emphasis will be on the mocktails, as they seek to curate a family-friendly space. In fact, they will be setting up a dedicated children’s section just for little eyeballs, as they make a place welcoming to adults and children alike.

“Pages and Perks isn’t being designed as a place where you run in, grab a book, and leave,” owners said in a release. “If that’s your style, we won’t hold it against you, but Pages and Perks is prepared to offer you so much more than just a transaction. It will be a welcoming space where we encourage you to hang out, get to know to the owners and the community. In a world that’s becoming more digital, the ability to sit down with a book and escape with us for a little while is a much-needed break.”

Perfectly situated between the Roser Park and Campbell Park neighborhoods, Pages and Perks is aiming to start a community in its neighborhood spot, while welcoming all from across St. Pete. As they prepare for the opening, you can catch them at pop-ups across town at various St. Pete events and festivals. You can get a sneak peek at the Roser Park Tour of Homes on March 21.
