Some of the Burg’s best Mexican is coming soon to St. Pete Beach. Nueva Cantina, a cult favorite on 4th Street South, is close to opening the doors on a second location at 5955 Gulf Winds Boulevard, on the same block at St. Pete Beach staple Postcard Inn.
The tasty restaurant is known for its modern takes on classic Mexican dishes, its popular happy hours, and an atmosphere that manages to be both lively and family-friendly. While the restaurant is not yet ready to announce a grand opening date, it hosted a job fair over the weekend, and anticipates opening “soon” this summer. Describing itself as “exciting Mexican rooted in tradition,” Nueva Cantina offers lunch, dinner, brunch, an expansive bar, regular specials, and afternoon happy hours Monday-Saturday. In addition to usual staples, the restaurants list of starters includes flash-fried calamari, bacon-wrapped jalapenos, tater tot nachos and even Oaxacan chicken wings.
Nueva Cantina was also one of the first in town to offer birria, and their rendition is more than worth the money. In addition to big burritos, steaming fajitas and traditional Mexican entrees, any dish featuring Nueva Cantina’s braised boneless short rib – such as the beef de arbol – comes with the highest recommendation.
At their 4th Street location, there is a full kids menu, and kids actually eat free all day every Sunday. Nueva Cantina serves a brunch menu from 11 am – 3 pm on Sundays, as well. They can be found in their St. Pete location at 1625 4th Street South.
