Ahoy, Tampa Bay food lovers. Drink up me hearties, and get ready for a new dining and entertainment venue in the region. Named Jolly Roger’s Grub and Pub, this pirate-themed concept in Tierra Verde promises to be rowdy, and after more than two years of anticipation the restaurant had its Grand Opening over Labor Day Weekend at 32 Madonna Boulevard.
“We will be famous for our deliciously messy cuisine of American Casual Comfort Food,” note the owners on Jolly Roger’s website. “Jolly Roger’s Grub & Pub will simply offer a casual, down-to-earth entertainment option for any and everyone seeking something a little different.”

If you dine here, get ready to be insulted. Don’t worry, it’s all in the playful spirit of a roast and part of the Jolly Roger’s atmosphere. However, as they put it themselves, “if ye are easily offended thoust shall not board thee ship.”
Even the menu doubles down on the pirate theme, with options like the Shiver Me Tenders chicken tenders, the Yo Ho Nachos, Mu-teeny Sliders, and Cap’n Mac’s Cheesy Pirate Balls. We’ve been told the early star out of the Jolly Roger’s kitchen is the Davy Jones Deep Fried Ribs.
Jolly Roger’s also offers a full bar with galleon-worthy cocktails, local craft beer on tap, and the usual libations. The restaurant experience is open from 4-11 pm Monday-Thursday, noon-midnight on Friday, and 8 am – midnight on Saturday and Sunday. Brunch is available Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Jolly Roger’s will be kid-friendly during the day, but after 9pm the restaurant will become 21+ only. You can follow the concept on Instagram, and its website for updates.
Expect insults, antics, and belly-filling grub
The ownership team includes Roger D Bell, W. Terry Libich, Kent Adams, and Alyssa Adams.
More from the restaurant: “Jolly Roger’s Grub & Pub will simply offer a casual, down-to-earth entertainment option for any and everyone seeking something a little different. And if you dine here, expect to be insulted. It’s part of the fun. Expect the atmosphere at Jolly Roger’s Grub & Pub to be rowdy and loud, because everyone here will be here to have a great time!
“Jolly Roger’s Grub & Pub is derived from a play on words, first; one of the owners’ of our establishment is none other than former Tampa Bay Times Bartender of the Bay for 2008, Roger Bell (a.k.a. Cowboy Roger). I think you see where we are going here with this one…. But the second part is also as plain as the hook in your pocket, Tampa Bay is rich in Pirate heritage. And Tampa Bay celebrates that culture by having large festivals and parades. Even naming our professional Football Team after Pirates.
“At Jolly Roger’s we are simply going to carry on that tradition with a few fun and zany twists for all to enjoy.”
