A local company is breathing new life into prime downtown real estate. Tampa Bay City Living announced it is building nearly two dozen luxury townhomes along MLK Jr. Street North, just off the Central Avenue corridor, with 15 of those going up on the property formerly home to the shuttered Greyhound bus station.

Adjacent to St. Pete’s EDGE and Downtown districts, the projects will be split into two properties, located at 180 and 200 9th Street North, totaling 23 new homes, as first reported by the Tampa Bay Business Journal’s Breanne Williams. The three-story homes will range from 2,400-2,600 square feet, with a 3 bedroom, 3.5 bath setup, in addition to two-car garages and a rooftop space in each home.

Jeff Craft of Tampa Bay City Living said he believes these new homes will be one of many things current and future that help bring the block to life, particularly as the City of St. Pete is examining corridors such as that stretch of 9th Street that could be due for rezoning back to two-way from their current one-way status.

“I’ve done a lot of projects in my life, and this one is going to turn out to be one of my favorites,” Craft said, later adding, “The area seems perfect for another typical downtown block where you have residential, shops, coffee shops, and bars. We’re hoping this is part of the catalyst.”

The way the city has changed – and thus, the desires of homebuyers – was also a big reason for Tampa Bay City Living jumping on this opportunity. Craft says they have heard from more and more potential buyers that they want to find a combination of spacious living with the “live, work and play” lifestyle that a location like this one has to offer, while still maintaining a reasonable price point.

It sounds like a lot to ask, but that’s also why the development team is so excited about this new project – they plan to deliver it all. And the spacious floor plan, along with the two-car garages instead of the typical one in many downtown-adjacent homes, is a key to that goal.

One of the nicest touches will be the rooftop spaces. Unlike many rooftops that just have an entryway platform, these townhomes will have a true indoor/outdoor space with an entertainment room that has a sliding glass door. The setup will allow for hosting guests and enjoying St. Pete’s sunshine, with space for a wet bar, refrigerator, furniture, and other amenities.

Tampa Bay City Living, which has developed hundreds of homes in the Tampa Bay Area, works with Baysite Engineering Shell Basix Construction on construction projects to create a streamlined process. They have also partnered with Sol Creative and Alderman Planning. Tampa Bay City Living is aiming for a completion date of summer 2025 for these new projects. Visit their website for more.
