The block off 5th Avenue North and Dr. MLK Jr. Street North is booming. St. Pete Salt Works, Uptown Eats, MIZE Gallery, Gypsy Souls Coffee, Barkett Realty, NEAT NEAT NEAT and more shops now call the block home. Soon, renowned artist/muralist Bekky Beukes will debut their brand new gallery space, Beukes Atelier, at 511 Dr. MLK Jr. St. N.
Beukes Atelier’s debut show, porcelain, will feature new works from the artist in addition to photography and soundtracks by Sandra Dohnert.

The grand opening is set for September 25 from 6-10pm.
Beukes’ posted the following ahead of the show’s official unveiling:
“Inside walls
Outside,
A body,
Mad unraveling.
The blinding noise…
A deafening silence,
Relentless,
Muted violence…
For this,
Eternal,
Porcelain scar”
Dohnert’s photo essay “I Miss Us” was one of the bright spots during a dark time. Her work has a way of bringing the community together, even when it’s not physically possible to.
Beaukes mural work can be observed throughout the Sunshine City. You can see her large scale work on the side of Red Mesa Mercado in the EDGE District, and on the roof of the historic Rialto Theatre in Tampa.
Bekky Beukes, is originally from South Africa and immigrated to the US in 2014. Their work features enamoring tangle formations that play with nature, romance, and the macabre.
