They say all good things must come to an end, and one St. Pete business has brought us nothing but good things since it first came onto the scene five years ago. Beans & Barlour, the much-loved bakery and cafe, announced today that it will be closing its storefront next week.
Friday, November 11 will be the final day for Beans & Barlour, located at 407 Central Avenue. Owners made the announcement on social media this morning, saying it is time for them to pivot away from a retail storefront and get back to the things they love. And congrats to them both, as part of that love involves their upcoming wedding.

Of course, while we are sad to lose what quickly became one of our downtown staples for sweet (and sometimes boozy) creations, New York-style bagels, and tantalizing baked goods, we are also happy that Beans & Barlour is giving us a full week-long farewell tour. We’ll happily take them up on the chance to stop by one (or a few) more times before their closure.
It should be noted, the closure isn’t due to a lack of business or other issues. In fact, in their goodbye post, owners said this has been their busiest year yet, thanks to a soaring demand for their breakfast goods. We count ourselves among those who have been coming through the door for bagels and coffee.
Instead, that change in consumer demand gave the couple less time to focus on the creative desserts that led them to open the brick-and-mortar shop in the first place, and that dampened their passion for it as a result.
With their nuptials ahead, Story and Steve have decided to forge a path toward fulfillment that doesn’t involve the stresses of operating a retail location. However, it’s not goodbye, as they teased more to come from Beans & Barlour – just not as a walk-in store.
From Beans & Barlour: “Thank you for everything, St Pete! We’ve been putting in some extra hours working to keep our freezers and pastry case as full as possible this week. We hope you’ll stop by to stock up on some of your favorites!”
