Pinellas County has long been a paradise for book lovers, with charming indie bookshops throughout the area. Now, a fresh face adds even more excitement to the literary scene. Banyan Books, a local independent pop-up bookshop, is making waves across St. Pete—and it’s quickly becoming a favorite among readers.

Owned by Emma and Matt Kindell, Banyan Books brings curated selections of new fiction, nonfiction, and kids’ books to festivals, cafes, and markets across Pinellas County. Recently, they were featured at the West St. Pete Community Festival, where their inviting display and unique offerings captured the community’s attention. Their commitment to supporting fellow local businesses highlights what it means to be a truly local shop in the Sunshine City.

One of Banyan Books’ signature features is their “Blind Date with a Book” collection. Each blind date book is hand-selected and carefully wrapped by the Kindells, allowing readers to discover new favorites without knowing the title beforehand. This fun and creative concept has quickly become a hit at their pop-up events.

Building strong connections with the community, Banyan Books has already partnered with several beloved local businesses. They joined forces with Mastry’s Brewing on St. Pete Beach in early April for a pop-up book swap and shop. Guests brought gently used favorite books to trade, browsed new titles, and enjoyed good food and drinks while hunting for their next great read. They also recently hosted a successful “Books and Brews” event at Craft Kafe in downtown St. Pete.
