The St. Petersburg Development Review Commission today approved plans for the development of a 14-story hotel on the property currently home to Fit2Run, voting 6-1 in favor. The property, located at 262 2nd Street North, is being developed by Delray Beach-based Kolter Hospitality, and they plan to bring a 192-key Tempo Hotel by Hilton to the .53-acre space.
In addition to the guest rooms, the 135,000 sq. ft. building would be home to a rooftop bar and pool, a front porch café, ground level community space, and a mid-story restaurant and craft cocktail bar. The development received public opposition, notably from Preserve The Burg, but ultimately the DRC concluded that the hotel plans meet all guidelines and zoning rules for the area.

Tempo will rise 172 feet, based on current designs, and will also include a 127-space parking garage. Additionally, plans call for 6,000 sq. ft. of meeting and pre-function space, as well as a state-of-the-art fitness center for hotel guests.
From Kolter, on their vision for Tempo: “When you stay at Tempo by Hilton St. Petersburg, the very best of St. Pete will be within arm’s reach. Conveniently located just off I-375 in the heart of Downtown St. Petersburg, visitors can see a show at Mahaffey Theater and Jannus Live or visit the Chihuly Collection and Dali Museum – all under a mile away. The white sands of St. Pete Beach and the St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport are also nearby. Tempo by Hilton will offer 180 guest rooms and suites, a craft cocktail bar, on-site restaurants, multi-use meeting facilities, and a rooftop bar and pool deck.”
