Call it an Un-Valentine’s Day party, but still with a hint of romance. This Saturday, the celebrated pop-up art gallery Populoum hosts ‘Heartbreak,’ a Valentine’s-themed art market, colorful prom, fire-dancing performance, and solo art gallery, all followed up by a late night dance party.
Heartbreak takes place Saturday, February 11 from 7-11 pm at Coastal Creative in the Grand Central District, 2201 1st Avenue South. Tickets are $12 at the door or $10 online, though I Love the Burg readers can use the code “ILTB” for 25% off this and any other public show or event happening at Coastal Creative. The five-in-one extravaganza builds on the incredible series Populoum has become beloved for – wild nights full of color, sound, food, drink, and amazing performances. Artists for this show have been tasked with creating works in any variety of media, so long as it is inspired by themes of heartbreak and love. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the artists, learn about their process, and take home a one-of-a-kind piece of art.
The heartbreaking prom you never knew you needed
The romantic prom dance will feature all your favorite love songs and prom-inspired decorations to create a truly magical atmosphere. Attendees are encouraged to dress in their best throwback prom attire – extra credit if it fits the Hearbreak theme. When festivities for the art show finish at 11, the late-night dance party begins.
Meanwhile, in addition to the art market, there will be a stunning visual fire performance from fire.faerialist, a solo exhibit titled ‘Crybaby” by Jay Schmittan, and a live painting by Sam Salem Witmer.
Whether you’re looking for an evening of love or a night of anti-romance, Heartbreak is sure to leave guests anything but heartbroken. Well, probably not, anyway.
