Seniors Week begins activities this week for St. Pete’s older adults

Move over, kids. It’s time to let the grown-ups play. The City of St. Pete and St. Petersburg Parks & Recreation announced the inaugural Seniors Week, a week full of events and activities for the city’s older adults August 21-25.

Parks & Rec says the celebration will shine a light on senior citizens and offer resources and activities to raise awareness of programs, services and opportunities that are available to older adults in the St. Pete community. The city offers a variety of inclusive programs for adults and seniors at the recreation and senior centers throughout St. Pete, and Seniors Week will showcase the things that help bring the community together.

There are four main events taking place as part of Seniors Week. The Senior Fit Fair will showcase wellness resources; Taste of the Gardens will include a garden-to-table cooking demonstration; and the Senior Games Showdown is a day full of outdoor activities and board games. Seniors Week culminates with the Senior Gala on Thursday, August 25 – an elegant, semi-formal gala in the St. Petersburg Shuffle Club ballroom.
