The Sunshine City is super pet-friendly. Many of our restaurants have dog menus (head to Cassis for the Mutt Loaf, says my pup Kino), and an equal amount go out of their way to more than accommodate pets. There are ample dog parks, pet-friendly beaches, amazing dog-friendly hotels (thanks for the recent stay, Hollander!), a bar dedicated to dogs, and even a Food Truck filled with dog treats (love ya, Fido’s Food Truck). A new ranking from Smart Asset has listed St. Petersburg among the top 11 dog-friendly cities in America.
St. Pete also has some amazing vets. I take Kino to Northeast Animal Hospital and Downtown St. Pete Vet Clinic for grooming and checkups and even in a pandemic they’ve been able to safely take care of my pup.

Huge shout out to the locally-owned and operated Tails and Trails, which continues to provide safe pet sitting and dog walking services for residents throughout St. Petersburg.
Here’s how Smart Asset created their rankings:
“To conduct our study, we analyzed data for 100 of the largest U.S. cities across the following six metrics: dog parks per 100,000 residents, dog-friendly restaurants, dog-friendly shopping centers, median home value, walk score and concentration of pet stores and veterinary offices.”

St. Petersburg ranked eight, while neighboring Tampa came in at 6.
“St. Petersburg, Florida has the seventh-highest concentration of pet stores and veterinary offices in the study, at approximately 79 per 10,000 establishments.” notes Smart Asset” “It has the 15th-highest ratio of dog parks to residents, at 2.3 per 100,000 residents.”
The ‘Burg has scored high in three other major points of consideration: median home value, walk score and dog-friendly restaurants.
