Clearwater residents and visitors will soon have a new way to travel between downtown Clearwater, Clearwater Beach, and soon, Dunedin. In partnership with the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA), the Clearwater Ferry will launch its expanded service on January 31. This marks PSTA’s first waterborne transit project and aims to ease traffic, support local businesses, and provide a scenic, eco-friendly alternative to traditional transportation.

The Clearwater route operates Thursday through Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., February through Labor Day (September 1). Fares are $5 for adults, $2.50 for seniors, students, and those with disabilities, and free for children 8 and under.

A new eco-friendly transit option for PSTA

The expanded service also enhances access to key local attractions like Coachman Park and the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. Regional leaders, including representatives from PSTA and the City of Clearwater, will be on hand to celebrate the launch with a memorable maiden voyage on January 31. This maiden voyage will include an animal ambassador from the Clearwater Marine Aquarium.

Looking ahead, PSTA plans to extend the ferry’s route to Dunedin, providing even more options for residents and tourists seeking a quick and relaxing way to get around.

The service is funded through state grants and investments from the City of Clearwater and PSTA, showcasing how collaboration can drive economic growth while promoting sustainable transportation options.
