The historic Beach Theatre (315 Corey Ave.) recently celebrated its 85th anniversary on St. Pete Beach. This milestone is significant for theatre director Hannah Hockman, who sees this as a sign of perseverance. Hockman has been revitalizing the theatre since acquiring it in 2023, and she recently announced that the theatre will officially reopen on July 18, 2025.
Over the weekend, Hockman and her team provided a sneak peek, allowing visitors to take their first steps inside in over a decade. The lobby is new and expanded, a concession stand and a cabaret area have been established, and the theatre mascot, Poppy the Popcorn Bucket, was revealed along with commemorative merchandise.

Hockman and her team are applying fresh stucco and paint to the building, and the marquee is en route for delivery. While there’s still more work to be done, Hockman is confident. “Once I got the keys to the place,” says Hockman, “I was pretty determined to make this happen.” Indeed, Hockman has already scheduled two events to herald the long-awaited reopening of the Beach Theatre.
