Pete’s Bagels’ owner, Steven Peterman, is set to open the highly anticipated drive-thru at 2439 4th St. S. in St. Pete within the next 6-8 weeks. Operating out of a historic Standard Oil gas station, one of the first ever built in St. Pete, the new drive-thru aims to provide high-quality breakfast options outside the Old Southeast neighborhood.

“We are excited to bring good food to an underserved part of the city,” says Peterman. “We are part of the community.” Peterman emphasizes that they hire locals and intend for the drive-thru to be “a place the people come to.”

The historic lot was previously a junkyard before Peterman leased it from the Blackmon family. The Blackmons sought to partner with a business that could revive the building while preserving its timeless charm. They successfully secured a local historic designation and are currently working towards a national designation.

Delivering a stellar new bagel drive thru in St. Pete

Peterman moved to St. Pete in 2018 and launched Pete’s General Store and Bakery in Historic Uptown in 2019. Since then, he has expanded to a larger location in the Grand Central District (2361 1st Ave S), opened a sister location in Ybor (1804 E 4th Ave), and established a dedicated bakery in Gulfport (1407 49th St S).

Customers rave about the Everything Bagel, which is “seeded like crazy,” says Peterman. The Original Pete is a standout NY-style lox bagel, and the breakfast sandwiches are designed to keep patrons coming back for their morning fix.

While the new location will be drive-thru only, Peterman assures that customers do not need a car to order at the window. This is music to my ears, as I have been sadly turned away from many major chains for trying to order at a drive-thru window without a car.
