A new sushi concept now open in the EDGE District is the first of its kind in St. Pete. Nomi Nori Handroll and Sake Bar is a high-end, hand roll temaki sushi and poke restaurant open at 1572 Central Avenue.
Led by owner and restaurateur Steve Srivisay, Nomi Nori is actually bringing two full experiences to the neighborhood, taking over two spots inside The EDGE Eatery. Nomi Nori at The District is inside the District Lounge, and it features a full-service dinner experience showcasing high-end ingredients, a cocktail bar with sake and soju, and regular live performances and music.

Meanwhile, Nomi Nori is available for lunch and dinner six days a week inside the EDGE Eatery at the walk-up counter, offering hand roll sushi and poke dishes that can be enjoyed inside the eatery or outside in the shade under the umbrellas.
Nomi Nori’s Eatery side is open Tue-Wed 11:30 am – 2 pm and 4-9 pm; Thu-Fri 11:30 am – 2 pm and 4-11 pm; Sat 12-11 pm; and Sun 12-8 pm. Nomi Nori at The District is open for dinner service each night, and reservations are recommended, which can be made here. While the concept soft opened last week, its official grand opening is this Thursday, September 7, and will feature a fire performer, specialty food and drink, and plenty of hand roll sushi.
Nomi Nori’s sushi is, of course, prepared by hand, shaping the seaweed into the shape of taco and filling it with high-end fish (think bluefin tuna, fresh scallops, and even caviar), special sauces, and other flavorings and condiments. Srivisay describes the poke dishes as being made with a “birthday cake style” that bring something different to the table (literally).
“We do everything with flair and have some elegance to it,” he said. “And we have really good flavors.”
Srivisay got hooked on temaki while he was in culinary school in Los Angeles, but has discovered that it can be hard to find outside of the few cities that have adopted the sushi style, such as L.A. and New York City. Now, he’s brought that style and passion to St. Pete for the first time.
In addition to the two Nomi Nori experiences, another new concept is coming soon to the EDGE Eatery. Coming in October, a new Vietnamese eatery featuring banh mi and boba tea will take over one of the counter spaces. Stay tuned for details on that upcoming experience.
