Austen van der Bleek is one of the Sunshine City’s bright spots. His ability to adapt to crowd and context without compromising the eclectic sounds he believes in as a DJ, from warehouses, nightclubs, and festivals, to lounges, cocktail bars, and art spaces, has won him over a devoted fan base. Over a decade into DJing, he’s earned his fair share of highlights behind the decks, like playing an official afterparty for Nile Rodgers & CHIC and receiving props in the DJ booth from Flavor Flav in Detroit. Van der Bleek has performed at some of the South East’s premiere festivals such as Suwannee Hulaween and Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival as well as some of the nation’s most esteemed nightclubs, including The Electric Pickle and Flash D.C. He’s also opened for luminaries of the more funky, jazzy, and downtempo variety like King Britt, Mark Farina, Charles Webster, Recloose, and many more. Locally, he’s been voted Best of the Bay ‘Best Club DJ’ and is best known for his residencies at Paper Crane, both inside and outside at Intermezzo, and in the back of Mandarin Hide. A tasteful and boundary pushing selector, Van der Bleek consistently surprises and excites listeners with music they won’t hear elsewhere through an honest expression of his influences, distilled and uniquely presented in his own original way. Through his travels, he’s taken these signature sounds and shared them with Mexico City, Cartagena, NYC, Washington D.C., Atlanta, Miami, and beyond.
