Celebrating International Jazz Day with 2-part event: Brazilian Jazz and US premier of a Mexican Jazz film

On Sunday, April 30, WADA celebrates
UNESCO’s International Jazz Day, presenting a two-part event, featuring the
Brazilian jazz ensemble ‘O Som Do Jazz’, followed by the US premiere of the
Mexican movie ‘Sincopa’. Presented under the patronage of the Mexican
Consulate and UNESCO. Live broadcast by Radio St. Pete, 96.7

“O Som Do Jazz,” is an ensemble that recaptures the spirit of 1960-1970 Brazilian
Bossa Nova, samba- jazz, MPB and Baiao. The highly entertaining sextet features
Rio de Janeiro Singer Andrea Moraes Manson and an international crew of Cuban,
Venezuelan, Brazilian and U.S jazz musicians playing the Great Brazilian Songbook
of Tom Jobim, Edu Lobo, Gilberto Gil, Marcos Valle, Braden Powell and others.
Together the group has three CD’s and original music soundtrack in Television
series on HBO, BBC, and FOX.

“Sincopa” is a Mexican independent film that breaks away from Hollywood’s stereo-
typical portrayal of the country and is essentially about friendship. The story revolves

around a musician following his passion for jazz, even if it means going against the
‘rhythm of life’. Cinematographer and producer Antonio Mata, director Alan Gutierrez
and actor Antonio Monroy will travel to St. Pete for this US premiere.
