Puerto Rico-born drummer and percussionist Dimas Sanchez has enjoyed a musical journey shaped by mentors such as Tony Sánchez, Keith Copeland, Ignacio Berroa, and Ángel “Cachete” Maldonado. In the 1980s, Sanchez delved into the rich traditions of Afro-Puerto Rican folklore under the guidance of Jesús Cepeda, Petra Cepeda and Don Rafael Cepeda. His musical repertoire spans performing and producing Latin Jazz recordings with Eddie “GuaGua” Rivera’s “Opus Mundi,” his own group “Fusion Beat,” and his latest project, the “Afro Latin Jazz Project.” In addition to performing, Dimas is a dedicated educator, frequently conducting percussion clinics and master classes.
