Regardless of your personal feelings toward the viral ALS Ice Bucket Challenge campaign, the social media sensation raised awareness and money for a worthwhile cause. In line with the surge of innovative digital fundraising efforts, several non-profits are taking to the Burg to start informational dialogues with citizens about serious issues.
We couldn't be prouder of the kindness and care that composes this city. These organizations offer opportunities for citizens to get involved from the comfort of their own bed, or a nice red couch.

The American Heart Association of Tampa Bay (AHA) is taking a cozy red couch, supplied by the kind folks at Ashley Furniture, around St. Pete and Tampa. The American Heart Association has several planned stops beginning today. Spectators can take a seat on the couch and engage in a conversation discussing how heart disease has affected their lives. Those on the couch can share how they champion heart health in their daily lives as well.
That's not all. The #RedSofaTour encourages individuals who take a seat on the couch to take a selfie. After you take the selfie, upload the photo to Facebook or Twitter and include a message about why heart health is important to you/who you are sitting on the sofa for. Make sure to use the hashtag #RedSofaTour when posting. By posting the photo and using the hashtag you will be entered to win 1 of 8 donated items from Ashley Furniture, including a Hindell Park Sofa.

Wordier Than Thou Garners National Attention

Wordier Than Thou, a St. Pete based non-profit organization, generated some buzz a few months ago when they announced their statewide event, Florida Bookstore Day. Outlets such as Publishers Weekly and Shelf-Awareness have written about the anticipated event.
Hosting such an event is no small task and requires a particular amount of labor and attention. To help make Florida Bookstore Day an event to remember, from Sugarloaf to Pensacola, Wordier Than Thou has started an indiegogo campaign. The money raised from the campaign will help pay for the following: pay for advertising in key Florida cities, a five-poster series designed by Florida artists and inspired by famous Florida novels, promo materials and to register Florida Bookstore Day as a non-profit organization.
Each donation level comes with its own set of rewards. As of now the organization is looking to raise just $5k. Consider donating and don't forget to join their Facebook event page.
