Christy Howard and her daughter, Madison Walsh, have brought a touch of magic to St. Pete with the opening of Spell Crafter, located at 2914 1st Ave N. The shop, which debuted last March, blends apothecary, ossuary, and ritual into one enchanting experience. After outgrowing their first store, The Healing Hedge Witch, in Tarpon Springs, Howard and Walsh opened Spell Crafter to create a space where visitors can explore herbs, candles, healing crystals, sigil books, and even animal bones—all of which are used for rituals performed under their guidance.

At Spell Crafter, rituals focus on manifesting tangible results, with money and love spells being the most requested, according to Walsh. For a money spell, the ritual involves a green candle, oil, and orange peel, with sigils and intentions carved into the wax to enhance the spell’s potency. Whether you’re new to spellcasting or experienced, Walsh and Howard offer guidance tailored to your needs.

“More witches in Pinellas County than you might believe”

Howard’s spiritual journey began when her daughter was still a teenager. “Like most teens, I didn’t want to follow in my mom’s footsteps,” Walsh laughs. But during the pandemic, both found themselves in unfulfilling jobs. “There was a growing demand for metaphysical stores that offered something different—people were searching for community and their own spiritual path.”

With the opening of The Healing Hedge Witch and later Spell Crafter, the local community of witches came together. “We stumbled into this amazing community of local witches. There are more witches in Pinellas County than you might believe,” Walsh says.

Join a group ritual this Halloween

As Halloween approaches, Spell Crafter has a full slate of events, including divine readings, herb and candle magic workshops, and Samhain ancestor work. On October 30 at 7 p.m., Spell Crafter will host a special Halloween event featuring group meditation, candle magic, and ancestor communication.

“It’s deeply transformative,” says Walsh. “I feel most connected to my practice when I’m honoring those who came before me.”
