The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA), along with U.S. Representative Kathy Castor, State Senator Darryl Rouson, and other local leaders, will break ground on a new SunRunner station on Friday, August 16, at 10:30am.
The station will be located around 120 1st Avenue North near the popular brunch hub Social Roost in downtown St. Petersburg, providing residents and visitors with easier access to popular spots like the St. Pete Pier, and the sprawl of shops and restaurants on Beach Drive.

Highest-ever ridership in June during St. Pete Pride
The SunRunner service, launched in October 2022, has quickly become one of PSTA’s top-performing routes. Running along PSTA’s busiest corridor, it connects St. Pete Beach to downtown St. Petersburg and is poised to be a vital transit link for the upcoming Tampa Bay Rays/Hines Gas Plant District project. The route recently celebrated a milestone, achieving its highest ridership on June 22, 2024, during the massive St. Pete Pride celebrations.
This new station will further enhance the SunRunner’s role in connecting the community and supporting the growth of St. Petersburg’s downtown area.

Back to school reminder for Pinellas County riders
Pinellas County Schools have partnered with the PSTA to provide free rides to students and staff (including volunteers and substitute teachers!) through the Universal Pass, or UPASS, Program.
All Pinellas County Schools students and staff ride free all year round. Just display a school or employee ID badge to the PSTA Driver. Substitute teachers can display valid substitute teacher slips, and volunteers can display valid level 1 and 2 badges. You may also be asked to verify your identity with a photo ID card.
