The Tempest @ freeFall Theatre
Shakespeare’s magic-filled exploration of the politics of colonialism erupts with power and relevance in this one-man spectacle. As the befuddled travelers encounter the ephemeral Ariel, the earthy Caliban, and Prospero’s sheltered daughter Miranda, old rivalries and new romances take root. In another time and place, one man’s voyage from Cuba to the U.S. begins to echo the events and politics of Shakespeare’s play. As Cuban author, Fernandez Retamar remarked, “What is our history, what is our culture, if not the history and culture of Caliban?” Show runs from May 23-June 14.
