February 21 – Gregory Porter and Ledisi LIVE in St. Pete
Gregory Porter is a 2-time GRAMMY winning vocalist and songwriter from Bakersfield, California whose music is at once timeless yet utterly of its time. Porter’s mother was a minister, and he cites the Bakersfield Southern Gospel sound as well as his mother’s Nat King Cole record collection as fundamental influences on his own sound. March 28-29 – Florida Suncoast Tiny Home Festival
30+ Tiny Homes are rolling into the ‘Burg this March for the Florida Suncoast Tiny Home Festival, organized by LocalShops1.com. The event features the latest and greatest in tiny home living trends! In addition to the tiny structures, the festival brings a lineup of more than two dozen leading experts in the Tiny House movement. The event will also showcase local food trucks, mobile boutiques, artists and home-related businesses, plus free activities for children and more. The event takes place March 28 and 29. Early bird tickets are now on sale! Early bird tickets are $10/day, or $15 for both days. The event takes place at England Brothers Park, 5010 81st Avenue North.
Winter WhiskeyFest Returns March 21
The Third Annual Winter WhiskeyFest is back on March 21! The event will feature light bites by The Mill, gorgeous ice from The Doggery, AND your ticket benefits the wonderful nonprofit METRO Inclusive Health. Feb. 21 — Sphinx Virtuosi Concert at The Museum of Fine Arts: For Justice and Peace
The Detroit-based Sphinx Virtuosi will be at the Museum of Fine Arts as part of a special, 3-day residency, culminating in a powerful concert performance of their program, “For Justice and Peace.” The concert will feature John Williams’ “Three Themes” (arrangements from scores of “Schindler’s List,” “Angela’s Ashes,” and “Hymn to the Fallen” (from “Saving Private Ryan”); and Frank Schubert’s “Death and the Maiden,” a work by Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla. 7-9pm. Collards After Dark: An Evening with Toni Tipton Martin at Tombolo Books
It’s the kickoff to the Tampa Bay Collard Greens Festival! Join Tombolo for an intimate evening with James Beard Award–winner Tipton-Martin (The Jemima Code & Jubilee), celebrating cultural heritage and serving up some social change by promoting the connection between history, food, nutrition and a healthy environment. Ms. Tipton-Martin’s latest cookbook “Jubilee – Recipes from Two Centuries of African American Cooking” has been named one of the best cookbooks of the year.
