Ribbon Cutting and Deaf Poets Performance at St. Pete Records
To celebrate, Miami’s alt-garage duo Deaf Poets are bringing a taste of their latest album St. Pete Records. Film Screening: Rivers and Tides at The Dali Museum
Rivers and Tides is a truly beautiful, Scottish-German 2001 documentary about artist Andy Goldsworthy, a Scotsman whose medium is nature itself and whose preferred studio is the outdoors, particularly where water forever flows, rises, and/or retreats. Filmmaker-cinematographer Thomas Reidelsheimer goes to great and sometimes inexplicable lengths to make visual corollaries to Goldsworthy’s ideas about underappreciated relationships between light, color, movement, balance, and fluidity of form in the real world, making Rivers and Tides a lively and always surprising cinematic gallery. 1-3pm. National Dog Day at Sundial St. Pete
It’s National Dog Day and the Sundial is celebrating! Whitney James: Guitar Hero with Dan Heck and LaRue at The Palladium
This evening of passionate music will highlight Guitar Hero favorites played by some of Florida’s finest jazz musicians; all of whom have been influenced by their guitar heroes in one way, shape or form. The opening set will cure your blues and rock you with vocalist Whitney James, singing original arrangements of her favorite songs written by Hendrix, Prince, The Beatles and more. The second set will swing, bop and roll featuring the dueling guitars of Dan Heck and LaRue Nickelson, and feature music by their favorite jazz influences Pat Metheny, Joe Pass, Pat Martino, Wes Montgomery, Jim Hall and Jimmy Raney. Dexter Fabian is the co-founder of I Love the Burg and That's So Tampa. A graphic designer by trade, Dexter relocated to the U.S. from Manila, Philippines in 2003 and moved to St. Petersburg, Florida in 2006 where he's been witness to Tampa Bay's explosion to become one of the hottest regions in the nation. In 2009, he helps developed the brand for I Love the Burg and in 2014 developed the branding for That's So Tampa and has been a regular contributor to both ever since.
