Imagining La Florida Exhibit Opening @ St. Pete Museum Of History
he objective of Imagining la Florida. Juan Ponce de León and the Quest for the Fountain of Youth is to spread the importance that Spain had in the discovery and in the colonial past of this state; a rich and complex history that, to an extent, is unknown by both countries. The exhibition has been conceived to be visually attractive and it will let the visitors get to know some of the most relevant figures in this chapter in history. Open Mon-Sat 10am-5pm. 6th Annual Business Plan Writing Contest
Access Florida Finance Corp., AFFC, hosts the Business Plan Writing Contest. Contestants from all over the state of Florida are invited to submit their business plans for review by a professional panel of judges. All participants received written feedback on their plans. Those whose plans scored the highest among the judges wins a cash prize. Come and join in on the networking and fun, while getting to know the historical voice of the Midtown. Historic Preservation Summit
The Pinellas County Historic Preservation Board, Visit St. Pete/Clearwater and St. Petersburg Preservation will host a Historic Preservation Summit on Wednesday, Sept. 17. The presentation is open to the public. The Historic Preservation Summit will highlight historic tourism with presentations from Visit St. Pete/Clearwater staff and Dr. Paul S. George, a professor of history at Miami-Dade College, Wolfson Campus. Attendees will have an opportunity to participate in a historic preservation network and meet other preservation leaders. 2-4:30pm. FREE and open to the public. Boom, Bust, and the BURG
Join SPP for its next program which promises to be fun & informative! From the spectacular 1920s boom that put Florida on the map to the post World War II boom that changed the state forever, learn how the cycle of boom and bust has left its mark on the 'Burg. Historians Paul George of Miami and one of our local favorites, Gary Mormino, will explain the social and economic forces that shaped the booms, describe the architecture that was created and the fortunes that were lost, and regale us with stories of the colorful characters who made it all happen. The program will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church, overlooking Mirror Lake, one of the 'Burg's beautiful historic church buildings, dedicated in 1930. 6:30pm. Free to attend. The Chosen @ American Stage Theatre (Wed & Thu)
It is 1944 Brooklyn, and two Jewish boys grow up five blocks and a world apart. A standing-room-only hit wherever it has played, this award-winning adaptation (from the award-winning novel) is by the same creators of last year’s hit MY NAME IS ASHER LEV. Creative Loafing Best Of The Bay Awards @ St. Pete Coliseum
The voting is over…it's time to party! The Genius Next Door: An Interactive Evening w/ The Brightest Minds In The Burg
Dr. AnnMarie Gunn is an Assistant Professor of Education at USFSP. Her reserach interests include literacy and reading instruction; culturally responsive literacy; and pre-service and in-service teacher education. In 2013, Dr. Gunn was the recipient of the Dr. Carlos J. Vallejo Memorial Award for Emerging Scholarship, given annually to a scholar who demonstrates a commitment to under-served communities and producing scholarship that advances multicultural and multi-ethnic education. Dr. Karin Braunsberger is a tenured Professor of Marketing in the College of Business at USFSP. Dr. Braunsberger’s research interests include consumer behavior and consumer activism. Currently she is working on introducing marketing into the wildlife conservation area, consumer boycott behavior, and edible ethics. Due to her initiatives focusing on the advancement of social/environmental issues and civic engagement, she has been awarded the Bank of America Endowed Professorship for 2014/2015. 6pm.

Porch Party @ The MFA

Fall Potluck In The Warehouse Arts District
Last May’s Open Potluck Social at the Train Station Center for Clay was such a success, that they're doing it again!
