Josh Lamkin Blues Jam
This show is a semi-open blues jam format hosted by Josh Lamkin with appearances from some of the area’s best musicians coming by to share the stage from time to time. Setting is lively and fun. Show up earlier in the evening for an intimate acoustic show with Jeremy Thomas. Since breaking onto the Tampa Bay blues scene as a teenager ten years ago, Josh Lamkin, 24, has earned a reputation as a top-notch entertainer. It is safe to say, without question, that Lamkin’s skills as a guitarist belie his youth. His fiery bottleneck slide work echoes the Delta-influenced blues of Elmore James, Johnny Winter and his favorite player, Ry Cooder, whose music he discovered as a teen. However as devoted as Lamkin is to the old-school style of blues, his music has a twist of funk as well. With the precision musicianship of bassist Harry Ong and drummer Aaron Buckingham, Lamkin turns tunes such as Chuck Berry’s Wee Wee Hours and Little Richard’s Miss Ann into high-energy romps capable of bringing even the sleepiest crowd to its feet. 7:30p.m.
