St. Pete’s Uptown Eats named a top 25 U.S. restaurant by Yelp

St. Pete’s Uptown Eats named a top 25 U.S. restaurant by Yelp

Uptown Eats was already one of our favorites spots to eat in St. Pete, and the popular eatery’s reputation has been confirmed yet again. Yelp released its list of the top 100 restaurants in the country, based on Yelp reviews, and Uptown Eats checked in at No. 21 overall, one of three Tampa Bay area restaurants to make the list.

Of course, this is no surprise to locals. The popularity of Uptown Eats has reached such a point that not only has the restaurant expanded its hours (now open on Mondays!), but it’s expanding the entire concept as it takes over the now-closed MIZE Gallery next door. Demand for their tasty sandwiches, baked goods and fresh coffees is well justified, as any who have been will attest. Follow them on instagram for more updates.

Our go-to is the Uptown Breakfast Sandwich (preferably with a scoop of roasted potatoes on the side), and we’ve yet to have a bad meal no matter what we get. It’s certainly difficult to walk by the baked goods cases without grabbing a scone or croissant. Uptown Eats is located at 689 MLK St N, open from 7 am – 2 pm on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and 8 am – 2 pm Saturday and Sunday.

The other two area restaurants to make the top 100 are Tampa’s Izakaya Tori Japanese Cuisine (which you can read more about here), and Dunedin’s Tukro Coffee. Tukro Coffee is an artisanal coffee shop in Dunedin with deluge of gluten-free and vegan pastries, and some of the strongest coffee in Florida. It’s exquisitely decorated, and its staff has earned ample acclaim in the avalanche of 5-star reviews.

Uptown Eats earns rave reviews from Yelpers

Yelp’s review of Uptown Eats praised the tasty breakfast: “Locals line up for breakfast and lunch at this little coffeehouse and bakery in downtown St. Pete (which the owners are hoping to expand in the near future). Grab a table indoors or out, and fill up on rich comfort foods like the Gouda Cheddar Grits breakfast bowl with a fried egg, crumbled bacon, collard greens, and smoky maple butter; the Hot Hot Heat sandwich packed with a fried egg, chorizo patty, jalapeño-Jack cheese, and jalapeño aioli; or the divine Malted Vanilla Bean Buttermilk Waffle with lemon mascarpone whipped cream, berries, and banana.

“And don’t skip their weekend special: the popular Scone & Gravy Bowl with vegetarian homemade gravy, which Yelp Elite Tanner M. says ‘I’d put up against any meat-based gravy out there.’ The compact menu includes vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options.

Popular dishes: In addition to locally roasted coffee and house-made pastries, Yelpers rave about the ‘heavenly’ Jam on It sando with fried egg, Gouda, spinach, Canadian bacon, and complex raspberry jam (featuring notes of black pepper, honey, and lemon) on a grilled brioche bun. Also a hit: The Uptown bowl with a fried egg, collard greens, potatoes, bacon, tomatoes, and cotija cheese over roasted potatoes.

“Yelpers say: ‘Teensy little place that fills up fast, but they have lots of outdoor dining, too! The coffee is great and the menu even better. You should not leave without eating one of their biscuit bombs, all of which are delicious. Everyone will find something to fit their needs and tastes! I love that it’s off the beaten path a bit.’ —Vanessa T.”
