Get ready to bike the Burg in style. This Saturday, January 21, hundreds of people in vintage attire will take to the streets on old school bikes for a four-mile loop through downtown as part of the St. Pete Shuffleboard Club’s 11th annual Tweed Ride. Tickets are on sale now here.
The annual favorite is a St. Pete staple, as the party kicks off with tea and scones at the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club before the group ride through downtown, complete with police escort. More than 400 riders are expected this year, dressed in their best tweed or other vintage clothing.
After the ride, participants will return to the SPSC to enjoy a concert by Junco Royals, swing dancing, and a meal by Heavy’s, as well as beer from presenting sponsor (and downtown favorite) Cycle Brewing.
Doors open and registration begins at 2 pm on Saturday, January 21, with the ride officially commencing at 4 pm. Tickets are on sale now, and club members receive a discounted rate of $40 now; after January 14 the price is $45. Non-members rate is $50, or $55 after January 14. Kids 16 and under are $20.
Riders – grab your tweed and your velocipede. The year’s most fashionable event on two wheels, is also a pivotal fundraiser for the Sunshine City’s historic shuffleboard club.
The Tweed ride takes place rain or shine, and riders are reminded that there is no drinking alcohol before or during the ride. The after party is set for 5-8 pm, and the food provided by Heavy’s is included in the cost of the ticket. Cycle Brewing will be onsite after the ride to provide brews for cyclists at no fixed cost, but with a donation recommended.
