Tombolo Books announces permanent location in the Grand Central District

Tombolo Books began as a pop up in the EDGE District. Their shelves were lined with National Book Award-winning novels, as well as some of the most exciting short story collections, non-fiction gems, memoirs, and books written by Florida authors. It was a home for knowledge and curiosity, and it’s all the brainchild of Alsace Walentine.

Since leaving the EDGE District arcade, the fabulous book shop has popped up at festivals, lectures, and special events for years now. Its owners even provided downtown book deliveries for residents hungry for a new read. Wait no more, St. Pete, because Tombolo is opening a brand new brick and mortar shop in the Grand Central District. The shop will open next to Black Crow Coffee and Squeeze Juice Works at 2153 1st Avenue South.

Tombolo launches IndieGoGo Campaign to open shop

Walentine made the official announcement on November 18 with the launch of an IndieGoGo Campaign. If you want to make an investment in St. Pete’s literary culture you can also contact alsace@tombolobooks.com.

It costs about $200,000 to open an indie book shop, and Walentine notes that the shop has nearly raised that amount.

“We just need another $12,000 to help us open on a solid foundation before the new year,” writes Walentine. “Your support will propel us into the future as a successful, independent bookstore, who will serve your reading habits and those of your family and friends for generations.”

Donate and receive Tombolo swag

There are incentives at each donation level. Those who give can receive full color Tombolo stickers, a Tombolo tumbler, a Lauren Groff curated tote bag, a Tombolo t-shirt and more. We are all for a meticulously curated indie bookstore in the Sunshine City. When it comes to literature, the more the merrier.

An opening date is still TBA. Follow Tombolo Books on Facebook and Instagram for more updates on the shop.
