The Top 6 Comics In Tampa Bay

The Top 6 Comics In Tampa Bay

Comedy has moved into a golden age. Stand-ups such as Patton Oswalt, Louis C.K., Hannibal Buress, Marc Maron, Bill Burr and Maria Bamford who have been cutting their teeth for years have helped blaze new trails for budding young comics.

All over television comics like Nick Kroll, Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer of Broad City, and Amy Schumer have re-invented the wheel of sketch comedy. Their bits are contemplative, satiric, mildly depraved, cerebral and simple. They boast the virality that contemporary dialogue demands without removing the power of the statement being made.

With inspiration booming from all ends of the comic spectrum, new voices are making themselves heard in the comedy scene. Noticing a need for a proper stand-up venue in the Burg, the good folks at Sly Bar, Shannon's Web and The Homemade Broadcast took it upon themselves to provide an outlet for local stand-ups to widdle and carve their craft.

Sly Bar's Stand-Up Open Mic Night just finished its 6th Round. Month after month the brightest and the funniest social commentators take the stage in the Grand Central District. With the arts, food, beer, music and coffee scenes blossoming in the sunshine city, it was only a matter of time before St. Pete became a destination for comics.

Here's our list of the 6 best Stand-Ups performing in St. Pete and around the state of Florida.
