The ‘Burg Hosts Working Women’s State Conference

Working Women of Tampa Bay, the group of entrepreneurial women that band together to motivate and inspire other business women, is hosting the first annual state wide Working Women’s Conference in downtown St. Pete.

This isn’t your average motivational speaking lecture series where the speakers get up on stage to talk about their personal achievements. This conference is about providing real solutions in order to face the “challenges that are unique to women in business and life that keep them from achieving the greatest heights of success,” according to the Working Women’s website.

The two day conference will feature many keynote speakers. Pam Iorio, former Mayor of Tampa, will kick off the conference at the Keynote Breakfast. Iorio says the conference is important because of the support this group of women provide each other.

Iorio encountered Working Women of Tampa Bay when her book was published. She says the group “is truly a wonderful opportunity for women to support one another.”

“Women leaders sometimes have a few more challenges. One that I’ve noticed over the years is how women allow self doubt to define their limits. That is something I address in my speeches because it’s self limiting for no reason. The other is finding that right balance between work and home.”

Iorio has been a leader in the Tampa Bay area since 1985 when she was elected to the Hillsborough County Commission, the youngest member in history at age 26. She was elected as chairwoman of the board at age 27.

When asked about her advice to young people, Iorio stresses the importance of being a “person of substance and learning about something specific. So often young people will have a specific goal in mind but they don’t have the expertise to achieve it. I think it’s important to develop an expertise in something.”

The Working Women’s Conference is open to all women: entrepreneurs, CEOs, women with ideas, and 9-to-5 career women. Tickets at different price ranges are available here. You can get a 10% DISCOUNT if you use the code BURG2013. September 5 and 6. The Mahaffey Theater, 400 1st Ave. S.
