St. Pete’s “classy dive bar”, The Bends, celebrates 12th anniversary

The Bends, located at 919 1st Ave. N., celebrates 12 years of success in the 'Burg.

Since opening 12 years ago, The Bends (919 1st Ave. N.) has earned its place as a unique institution in St. Pete, a hot spot to catch local and national bands that span the genre spectrum, and cheap, affordable drinks assure a cohort of diehard regulars spill into every corner of the bar, sidewalk, and parking lot—claustral in the best way possible.

In days past, I spent many a weekend drinking PBR tallboys between rounds of pickle-backs (a shot of whiskey followed by a shot of pickle juice) at The Bends. Friends of mine still perform shows there. It’s stayed, thankfully, the same: “a classy dive bar”.

A beloved live music and cocktail bar in St. Pete

In celebration of its 12th anniversary, The Bends will do what it does best: provide patrons with free live music, and, yes, affordable drinks. Beginning at 8pm on August 30, The Bends will host 4 musical guests: Ben Katzman’s Degreaser (album release show), Spoiled Rat, Sure Thing, and We’re Sweet Girls (DJ set).

Follow The Bends on Instagram to stay up to date on special events and shows.

If the name Ben Katzman feels familiar, it’s because the artist was a finalist on the most recent season of Survivor. His new album, Tears on the Beach, features an array of indie rock staples like Mannequin Pussy, illuminati hotties, Guerilla Toss and Colleen Green, as well as ex-Survivor contestants like Season 45 winner Dee Valladares.
