Tampa Bay Collard Green Festival returns this weekend in the Historic Deuces Corridor

One of St. Pete’s tastiest cultural events is back for 2024. The Publix Tampa Bay Collard Green Festival takes place on Saturday, February 17 from 9am to 5pm at the Dr. Carter G Woodson African American Museum (2240 9th Avenue South).

The Publix Tampa Bay Collard Green Festival, Inc (TBCGF, Inc.) is a 501(c)(3) charity invested in the overall health and well-being of Tampa Bay. The huge block party fills the streets around the Woodson Museum with a collard green cook-off, live music, a local market, games, and more.

The incredible event supporting health and food equity in the Sunshine City was co-founded by Boyzell Hosey and Samantha Harris in 2017. Since its inception, it has blossomed into one of the most celebrated happenings in the ‘Burg, both for its educational components and for the incredible spread of food. In 2023, it saw a record-setting 8,000 attendees.

Education and entertainment in one festival

“We endeavor to bring a balanced mix of resources, education, and assistance together in a fun and meaningful way,” write the co-founders on the Festival’s website. Their mission is simple: “To inspire healthier communities through urban agriculture, culinary experience, nutritional education, fitness, and family fun”

TBCF isn’t alone, as Collard Green Festivals are on the rise nationwide. However, the event in St. Pete has its own unique twist. From fresh produce, plant cultivation, and exploring diverse cooking methods, to dietary enlightenment and so much more, TBCGF embodies a communal and holistic focus towards living healthier lifestyles.

Collards After Dark: A Liquid History of the U.S. Presidency

Join the Festival for a special event with food writer, two-time James Beard award winner, attorney, and certified barbecue judge, Adrian E. Miller. Known as “The Soul Food Scholar”, he’ll guide you through “delicious drinks inspired by iconic moments in American culinary history”. The event will be hosted at The Cuban Club on Friday, February 16 at 6pm. Single tickets start at $85. They include a signed copy of his book The President’s Kitchen Cabinet, a complimentary drink, and heavy hors d’oeuvres.
