With summer in full swing, the St. Pete Parks and Recreation Department is stepping up to make sure no kid goes hungry. In partnership with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Service’s Summer BreakSpot, Parks and Rec is providing free meals to St. Pete children every weekday all summer long.

Because many children are reliant on cafeteria meals during the year, the Summer Food Program aims to bridge the gap during the break. The program began May 31st and runs through August 5th, providing free breakfast and/or lunch at more than a dozen locations throughout St. Pete (full list below). No registration is required, and the meals are available to any children 18 years of age or younger.

This program mirrors other similar efforts by the city, county and local leadership to address food insecurity issues in the area, particularly as inflation drives up the cost of everyday goods and strains families of all sizes. Just last week, Pinellas County hosted a grocery giveaway in Pinellas Park, and the St. Petersburg Free Clinic just released its weekly We Help FRESH Pantry schedule, providing free and fresh groceries every weekday in St. Pete to those in need.

The Parks and Recreation Department is also hosting a swimsuit drive as it asks for swimsuits (sizes 6-16) and towels to help kids in need of supplies for swim lessons. Donations are accepted at City recreation centers and pools.
