St. Pete’s Main Library To Be Renamed After Former President Barack Obama

This morning, the City of St. Petersburg announced plans to rename the city’s main library after former President Barack Obama, the country’s first African-American president.

The renaming will also coincide with a $6 million renovation of the public library that will be funded by the Penny for Pinellas program. This includes additional parking spaces, improvements to the indoor and outdoor spaces and restrooms, and enhancements to the library’s programming, highlighting the contributions of President Obama and his wife, Michelle.

The new name will still need city council approval. The main library is located at 3745 9th Ave. N.
