St. Pete Hidden Gems: St. Pete Salt Works, a space for float rooms

St. Pete Hidden Gems: St. Pete Salt Works, a space for float rooms

Inside purple and turquoise float rooms

St. Pete Salt Works is a hidden gem at 517 Dr. MLK Jr. St N, just outside of Historic Uptown — and its gorgeously lit float rooms are the anxiety- and stress-free spaces I think we all need right now. This is your opportunity to support local, shop small, and treat yourself.

The ambient, kaleidoscopic design of St. Pete Salt Works makes it a resplendent oasis- and it’s owners Mark and Amy Anderson grew up in the Sunshine City.

Give the gift of a float for the holidays

Float in 200 gallons of water

Floating takes place in a salt water tank with 1000 pounds of Epsom salt in just 200 gallons of water. This means that the water is so dense with salt that anyone can trust the water to hold them up in perfect alignment under zero gravity conditions.

The water is heated to 93.5 degrees – average skin temperature. The ideal environment is for one to turn off the lights, though the lights can stay on as well. The idea, according to the owners, is to be relieved of as much external stimuli and stress as possible.

Standard float time is 60 minutes — but guests are invited to float for as long as they like. Whether that’s 2 hours, or up to 5 hours. Each hour is considered a full float, so be sure to look into St. Pete Salt Works memberships to make this experience even more affordable for you.

Flotation therapy has been used for headache relief, assist with sleep patterns and provide more vivid dreams, increased levels of serotonin, pain relief, and stress reduction.

Flotation therapy has been around in tanks since the 1950’s, but historically, the relaxation of floating on top of still salt water has been around for thousands of years. There’s something about being in this womb-like state that our bodies respond extremely well to.
