In a game-changing partnership between Pinellas County Schools and the YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg, the new Speer YMCA is officially open at 495 62nd Avenue Northeast. The beautiful 75,000 sq.-ft. facility is in the soft open stage now, and will have a full opening on January 2.

The Speer YMCA is located adjacent to Mangrove Bay Middle School, and many of the facilities will become a shared experience between the school and the YMCA. The private-public partnership is a game-changer for the students, and helps provide anyone in St. Pete with an excellent health and wellness option.

Highlights at the new YMCA include a full aquatics center opening in early 2024, which will include an 8-lane competition-sized pool, a warm-water instructional pool, and a splash pad. Portions of the fitness and wellness area are already open, which includes state-of-the-art fitness equipment, group exercise studios, a cycling studio, an outdoor wellness terrace, and a gymnasium shared with Mangrove Bay Middle School.

There will also be a Kids Zone equipped with engaging activities for children of all ages, including STEM programs and play areas inside, and an outdoor playground, as well as a technology lab for eSports gaming, computer classes, and specialized training. In all, shared facilities include the gym, the track & field areas, a teaching garden, the culinary center, and a dining hall, all benefiting both the YMCA and the wider community.
