A longtime staple in downtown announced a huge change in leadership today – and the anticipation already has our taste buds salivating. St. Pete’s Rococo has hired David Blackmon to become their new executive chef, bringing award-winning skills to the local favorite steakhouse.
Chef Blackmon comes to Rococo after serving as the executive chef at Atlanta’s Bacchanalia, a New American restaurant and previous recipient of a James Beard Award*. His style places a strong emphasis on fresh ingredients, “executed through a modern yet creative presentation,” according to Rococo. He is also noted for a style of cooking that incorporates sustainability techniques, including preservation and fermentation.

The addition of Chef Blackmon will only increase the success Rococo has sustained over the years. A favorite for steak and seafood, the elevated space has been recognized an incredible 10 years straight by Wine Spectator’s annual Best Of Award of Excellence, crediting the more than 5,000 bottles and 1,200 labels inside Rococo’s cellar.
“The restaurant is thrilled to usher in a new era with David at the helm as we expand our offerings and continue to strive to be the absolute best version of ourselves,” said Kevin Quinn, General Manager of Rococo Steak. “We have no doubt that his creativity, exceptional cooking style and attention to detail will resonate deeply with our guests.”
Rococo Steak is located at 655 2nd Ave S in St. Petersburg. The restaurant is open daily for dinner starting at 4 pm. For more information on Rococo Steak, visit rococosteak.com.
(*A previous version of this story cited a press release indicating Bacchanalia won the James Beard Award under Blackmon’s leadership. The PR company has since amended that information, saying the award came before Blackmon was named executive chef.)
