One of our favorite downtown spots for tasty Mexican eats is about to open a west side location. Red Mesa Group announced today that Red Mesa Mercado is debuting a second location in the Pasadena area, at 6001 Central Avenue in St. Pete.

The fast-casual Mexican concept dishes up incredible food inspired by the drive-by dining style unique to the streets of Southern California and Mexico – “places where secret recipes rich with flavors and the freshest ingredients get served up quick in a no-nonsense, take-out style,” the restaurant explains. This second location for Red Mesa Mercado is taking over the former site of Two Graces, which closed earlier this summer.

The announcement from Red Mesa Group said the new restaurant will open sometime this winter, bringing their popular concept to the area in late 2022 or early 2023. This announcement follows the news that Red Mesa Group is debuting its first Americana concept this September with the grand opening of Quatro, a food truck permanently located in front of Green Bench Brewing.

Red Mesa Mercado has become a cult favorite in St. Pete, beloved for hefty burritos, specialty street tacos, and overflowing bowls. The chorizo and green chile migas breakfast burrito is a particular favorite of I Love the Burg, stuffed with scrambled eggs, chorizo, cheddar jack cheese, mild green chiles, grilled peppers and onions, serrano chile, and crispy corn strips.

We don’t recommend eating the entire thing if you plan to exercise immediately after.

This second location for Red Mesa Mercado is expected to be similar to the first, offering “original family recipes with Cali-Mex and old-world Mexican flavors.”

From the announcement: “At Red Mesa Group, we hail from spectacularly different walks of life. We are telling the story of Mexican, Latin, and American dishes inspired by the people and places of this community. The Bay Area doesn’t limit itself, and neither do we. We make mindful business decisions that connect the flavors of our family; further the prosperity of our team members and purveyors; and enrich the communities we live in.

“We seek opportunities to create new concepts that enliven the senses through inspired settings, graceful service, and genuinely good food that is influenced by the flavors of our youth. It’s unconventional. It’s driven by quality. But most of all, it’s fun.”
