The prolific Vitale Bros are moving locations to 5013 20th Ave. S. in Gulfport. They are cutting the retail component of their previous store, doubling down on their educational programs and offerings, and rebranding as Overspray Art Space.

With a team of 5 artists (and guest artists cycling through the ranks), Overspray will offer graffiti and tagging classes, as well as advanced mural classes. Enrollment for October has already begun.

The Vitale Bros. surmised that for their services to mature, they need to expand beyond tagging. “We’re trying to elevate the class experience,” says John Vitale. “Before it was like ‘Hey, come try spray paint’, and now it’s a higher-end educational experience for street art.”

“Different skill sets to learn from every person”

The core group consists of street artists artists Hinson Thehealer, Digital, and John Vitale, as well as muralists Nicole Salgar and Jujmo. “There’s a different skill set to learn from every person,” says Vitale.

Salgar brings a Latin Folk influence to her murals, showcasing a vibrant, community-first aesthetic. Hinson Thehealer can transform any wall into a mural, teaching essential skills to students interested in large-scale projects. Digital, hailing from LA, infuses St. Pete with a signature West Coast funk style. Jujmo, a multi-disciplinary artist, creates stunning works in graphic design and murals, drawing inspiration from nature, folklore, and anime.

With a mix of core and guest instructors, students will learn a range of styles and skills necessary to excel in street and mural arts. The instructor-to-student ratio will also improve. At the previous location, classes had upwards of 50 participants, making one-on-one attention challenging. At OverSpray Art Space, class sizes will be capped at 20 students.
