Out of The Trop & Into The ‘Burg: 5 Ways to Watch The Rays

Out of The Trop & Into The ‘Burg: 5 Ways to Watch The Rays

Opening day is finally upon us and not all the dinger loving locals out there have reserved box suites and dug out seats at the Trop. With that in mind we at iLovetheBurg wanted to share with you the 5 premiere alternatives to enjoy our Rays downtown and around the ‘Burg.

1. Urban Brew & BBQ

Just a stones throw from Tropicana, Urban Brew & BBQ, the lab of meat candy and craft beer has the games on their large flat screens all season. Experience the tedious climb of the World Series bound Rays in HD with a rack of ribs doused in sweet honey sauce, a side of fresh cut and tossed cole slaw, mac and cheese mixed with juicy pulled pork and one of your favorite Florida brews to wash it all down. With the addition of their new beer garden they can fit the entire community in their Grand Central spot. Urban Brew & BBQ 1939 Central Ave.

2. Old Northeast Tavern

In the heart of the Old Northeast is the Tavern where everyone’s a regular. You’re hard pressed to find a joint that offers a finer and more unique selection of food from their signature Turkey Strawberry Sandwich to their Apple Walnut salad. If you want to class up your ball game viewing, the Old Northeast Tavern offers an expert list of wines to fuel your excitement and increase the Rays performance. That’s not to say this Tavern hasn’t forgotten its local roots. They have an extensive list of craft beers to keep you satisfied and hydrated with enough bar stools to fit you, your friends and fellow fans. Old Northeast Tavern 718 2nd St N.

3. Green Bench Brewing

St. Pete’s first craft micro brewery, Green Bench, is one of the freshest spots on Central to grab an expert brew and enjoy the game. In honor of opening day, the local hot-spot is offering 20% off all beer today, if that’s not showing some serious St. Pete love, then I don’t know what is. Head on down all season and help drink the original craftsmen out of house and home. If you need to work out some officiating rage during the 7th inning stretch, the local brewers installed a brand basketball hoop for your athletic and frustrated pleasure. Enjoy a Green Bench Saison to add a true complement to an already hyped season. Green Bench 1133 Baum Ave N.

4. El Cap

Offering arguably the best burger in St. Pete, El Cap is an institution in the city. They serve simple food in an extraordinary way. The cooks are always making rounds through the restaurant greeting the new faces and hassling the old. Grab a chair at the bar, get yourself a daily double with the works and a side of Mozz sticks and enjoy America’s pasttime in a restaurant that harbors the heart and grit of St. Pete. Bring your family or leave them behind, you’re never really alone at El Cap. El Cap 3500 4th St N.

5. Ferg’s

You can’t say the name Ferg’s without adding a little Southern twang. This iconic bar and grill is THE place to be before, after and during the Rays game. Ferg’s seems to stretch into infinity and is always filled with a menagerie of baseball fanatics to share in the triumph and tragedy of our beloved home team. With indoor/outdoo/upper deck seating you’ll never have to wait for a table or a spot close to the TV. Watching the Rays at Ferg’s is about as close to putting your cleats in the Tropicana dirt as you can get without jumping the dug out and making a dash around the diamond. Ferg’s 1320 Central Ave.

*BONUS: Your Couch

While St. Pete is littered with spots for you to enjoy the game, some nights it’s nice to stay in and enjoy the quiet comforts of your living room and your loved ones. Whether the company you keep is family, a cat, a duck, a rabbit or a bucket of Cheese Puffs and a six pack, treat yourself, you deserve it.

If you have any other suggestions, tell us all about it on the comments below. Go Rays!!!
