Night Market Fuels Local Maker Surge

Night Market Fuels Local Maker Surge

St. Pete is flush with eclectic markets. From the Indie Street Festival that happens at Green Bench on a monthly basis, to the Corey Avenue Market on St. Pete Beach, the Burg and its neighboring cities have carved out a place for local makers, farmers and artists to shine and share their passion with the curious community. On Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 6pm, the Night Market St. Pete will join the fray. The brainchild of Ronnie Lee, the Night Market will take place at the St. Pete Side Lot — 2133 2nd Avenue South.

Lee is a big fan of the weekly/monthly markets in the Burg and wanted to provide another outlet for the most creative minds in the city to showcase their products. “I loved the concept of keeping it local. I always enjoyed visiting the diverse booths and seeing the unique items for sale,” said Lee in an email. The market has already generated massive local buzz. The event page already has over 3.4k residents interested. They’ve already maxed out at their vendor capacity of 20, haveing to turn away at least 10 already. The event coordinators are working with the city to see if they can get the street blocked off to allow more room for vendors, much like how the indie market takes over a section of Baum Avenue in the EDGE District.

As of now, the February night market is the only one in the works, though Lee says they’re hoping to make this a monthly event. Confirmed market participants include:

Pergamo Paper Goods, which creates collage-paintings offered as prints, cards and more. The artist’s website asks, “Do you like animals? Do you prefer your animals to be dressed to the nines? Do you like sweet squirrels in dresses blowing out birthday candles?” When they’re illustrated with such rich, vivid details, our immediate response is yes.
