We love the Burg so much sometimes we can’t help but sing its praises. A new, wonderfully hilarious musical, Sunshine City, The Musical, is based on the true story of John Lodwick, the first Public Relations director in America, and his outrageous media efforts including Sea Vamps, the Millionaire Bachelor Mayor and Chaos the Vaudeville Dog.

Matt Acquard and Julia Rifino (Avenue Q) star as Jack Handsome and Flora Day, Sunshine Citizens who fall in love while concocting publicity stunts to draw tourists to St. Pete.

Directed by Vickie Daignault, the performance takes place at Opera Central, 2145 1st Ave. S. It is the closing event of the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance’s 2018 Festival of the Arts.
