Mayor Kriseman tests out electric scooter sharing system

Love exploring St. Pete? It may get a bit easier if St. Pete brings Limebike, an electric scooter sharing company, to the downtown area.

Mayor Kriseman recently posted a photo on Facebook riding one of the company’s scooters.

“We still have a way to go and some issues to work through in order to get these on our streets, but I remain committed to diversifying transit in the Burg: cars, bikes, buses, rideshare, ferries, scooters, feet,” Mayor Kriseman wrote in a message to residents.

A Limebike membership costs $29.95 per month, $1 for an individual ride, and the company runs a dockless system. This means bikes can be found and unlocked by a phone app, and locked back again anywhere, rather than at a designated station, according to a report by Forbes.

It’s inclusion in the city would complement existing transportations systems like Coast Bike Share, and the free downtown e-Looper.
