Local Organizations That Make a Difference in the Burg

Many local organizations in the Burg provide inexhaustible support for the community year round. While it’s important to give back on #GivingTuesday and during the holiday season, we hope you’ll continue to recognize the significance of these local organizations that continue to paint a brighter tomorrow for the Sunshine City. Here are a few that inspire us on a daily basis:

Keep St. Pete Lit

For year, Keep St. Pete Lit has activated our literary arts community. The organization has helped inspire longtime resident with a passion for the arts, and younger members of the St. Pete community whose creativity is just beginning to spark. From Literary Walking Tours and poetry/prose open mic nights, to opening a writing school and hosting literary night hikes, Keep St. Pete Lit’s enigmatic approach to the arts is something truly special. Consider donating to them so that they can continue to shape and inspire the ever-expanding minds in the Burg.

 

METRO Tampa Bay

Metro Wellness and Community Centers was established in 1993  and is committed to providing health and wellness services that inclusive, relevant, supportive and represent the lifetime continuum of the diverse people in the Tampa Bay community. On top of HIV services, Metro also provides counseling services, fitness programs, open mic nights and support groups. This organization continues to help make St. Pete and all of Tampa Bay a more inclusive, progressive and open community. Donate today and help Metro continue to add heart, acceptance and support for residents all over the city.

CASA – Community Action Stops Abuse

CASA has provided lifesaving services to women, men and children living with domestic violence since 1977. This organization provides safe refuge, crisis intervention, advocacy, professional training, outreach and community education to end domestic violence. In short, CASA is a bringer of hope. The organization just opened a new facility which allows them to provide help to a greater number of abuse victims. It’s also allowed them to construct a kennel on site for those coming with a pet. It has been regarded as the Best Nonprofit in St. Pete by LocalShops1, the Tampa Bay Business Journal and the St. Pete Chamber of Commerce. Donate today and help them continue to help those in need as they strive to create a community without domestic violence.

 

Friends of Strays

Friends of Strays is a non-profit organization founded in 1978. They provide services to the most needy section of St. Pete’s pet population, the homeless animals of Pinellas County. Services include sterilization, medical treatment, socialization and daily care until each animal is adopted. Their main goal is to stop the reproduction of homeless cats and dogs who are abandoned and left to roam, unable to care for themselves. Donate today and help Friends of Strays continue help the needy animals in the Tampa Bay community find forever homes.

 

Rescue Writing

Rescue Writing is a community of individuals who believe in the value of storytelling. The organization provides free teaching tools to make writing and storytelling fun and innovative. Their goal is to offer teachers a free classroom book, gifted by a sponsor supporting the community. Rescue Writing provides learning videos, downloadable templates and writing tools to create stories on their website. Make a donation today and help support teachers and students.
